I named this course Tarot Foundations because the classes focus on two essential skills: understanding how each individual card works and learning how the cards connect with one another.

This course is for anyone who wants to move beyond individual card meanings and develop a deeper understanding of how Tarot works as a whole.

What is “Tarot By Starlene”?

Tarot by Starlene is my Tarot website and the name of a free app, I created specifically for my Tarot teaching, readings, and other Tarot offerings.

What is the Tarot Foundations Course?

The Tarot Foundations Course is designed to simplify reading Tarot by teaching you the framework underneath the cards: the patterns, relationships, and structure of the deck.

We’ll begin by working with individual cards, then move into pairs and gradually build toward readings using more cards. The focus is on giving texture to individual card meanings and learning how those meanings change and develop when cards appear together.

Future courses in the Tarot Mastery Program will take a deeper look at Tarot spreads, archetypes, Tarot as a divination tool, and more.

Tarot Foundations is a good fit for beginners as well as readers who already know the cards but want a clearer framework for bringing them together into a coherent reading.

It is not designed as a quick fix or a course on fortune-telling with the cards. The goal is to build a strong foundation for understanding and reading Tarot that you can continue to develop in the courses that follow.

Classes meet Saturdays at 5 p.m. Eastern.

Tarot Foundations includes 10 live classes held on Saturdays at 5:00 PM Eastern via Google Meet.

Classes are scheduled for:

• January 23 & 30
• February 6, 20, 27
• March 6, 13, 20
• April 3 & 10

There will be no class on February 13 or March 27.

Classes are 90 minutes but sometimes run a little bit over. 

Where Classes Take Place

Live classes are held through Google Meet. All course materials, assignments, practice exercises, announcements, and class recordings are provided through the Google Classroom.

Students will receive access information before the course begins. Recordings and course materials are available for 1 year past the date of the final class.

How Long You Will Have Access For

The classes are designed to be attended live so you can participate, ask questions, and interact with me and the other students. If you need to miss a class, each live class will be recorded so you can watch it later.

You will have access to the Tarot Foundations class recordings and course materials for at least 1 year after the final live class.*

*Access may remain available longer, but 1 year is the guaranteed minimum.

How I Teach Tarot

My philosophy on teaching Tarot carries through all four courses in the Tarot Mastery Program (TMP). Each of the courses in the TMP focuses on different aspects of learning and reading Tarot, but, my own principles that guide the way I teach remains the same.

In this Tarot philosophy section I am sharing the overall approach to how I teach Tarot, rather than what is covered in any one course. You can read more about the focus of each course in its individual course description.

Beyond Memorizing Card Meanings

My courses focus on helping you develop your own understanding of the Tarot cards. I teach traditional card meanings, but I also emphasize understanding the symbolism, recognizing patterns, and seeing how the cards relate to one another.

A big part of the way I teach is helping you learn to interpret what you observe in the cards, rather than simply relying on memorized, or traditional meanings. Traditional Tarot meanings are an important foundation, but they aren’t the final word on what a card means in every situation.

Developing Your Intuition

Your first impressions matter. One of the things I emphasize in my teaching is to learn how to recognize and trust your intuition. This is a skill that develops through observation, with practice, doing reflection exercises, and your own experience.

I guide you through the process of how to begin recognizing patterns in the cards and spreads, developing your own interpretations and become more aware of how your intuition communicates with you.

With practice, you’ll also learn to distinguish between meaningful intuitive impressions and your own assumptions or projections. This will help you build greater confidence in your interpretations.

Reading With Someone, Not Just For Them

In my decades of reading Tarot, I’ve found that the most meaningful readings happen through conversation.When you understand the person you’re reading for, and have an awareness of their circumstances, this can help you interpret the cards within the context of their actual experiences.

The way that I teach involves helping you learn how to ask thoughtful questions and engage with your client. This way you can provide a reading that is both relevant and meaningful.

Your Own Voice as a Tarot Reader

It’s important to me, as your instructor, to help you find your own voice when reading Tarot.

There will come a time when your interpretation differs from traditional meanings or even how I would interpret the cards. When this happens it is helpful to analyse your observations to learn how you arrived at your interpretation.

My goal isn’t to make everyone read Tarot the way I do.

My goal is to help you develop your own understanding of the cards. So you can strengthen your interpretation skills, and gain confidence in your Tarot readings.

Meet “Learn with Starlene”

The Learn With Starlene app, is a private companion app being developed to support students throughout the Tarot Mastery Program.

The app is designed to provide additional space for hands-on tarot practice, reflection, and progress tracking. You can access it from your computer or install it on your phone for convenience.

Learn with Starlene Works with Google Classroom

All core coursework, lessons, assignments, journaling, and instructor feedback will continue to take place in Google Classroom, so you’re not missing anything while the app is being developed.

As the Learn With Starlene app grows, new features for practice and journaling will be introduced to enhance your learning experience.

The Tarot Mastery Program

The Tarot Mastery Program is a four-course pathway for learning to read Tarot. Each course covers a different part of the process, and the first three can be taken on their own if you only want to focus on certain areas.

Tarot Foundations covers the structure of the deck, the symbolism, and the patterns that run through the cards. Tarot Divination focuses on interpretation and building your reading skills. Tarot Archetypes goes deeper into the symbolic and archetypal relationships between the cards. You can take these first 3 courses in any order.

The fourth course, Professional Tarot Consultant, pulls everything together and concentrates on professional practice, ethics, and working with clients. You need to complete the first three courses before enrolling in this one.

Whether you’re studying for your own growth or preparing to read professionally, the program gives you a clear, complete path through the Tarot.
